Rosemary

Common name:Rosemary
Botanical name:Rosmarinus officinalis

Rosemary is hardy in full sun areas where winter temperatures do not drop below 10 degrees F. Rosemary is evergreen and makes a great aromatic hedge, 4'-6' tall and 2' wide. Foliage is used in cooking. Blue flowers appear in summer. This plant is drought tolerant once it's established. Bees love Rosemary!

Blue Oak

Common name:Blue Oak
Botanical name:Quercus douglasii

Blue Oak is a deciduous tree that has a slow growth rate and reaches 50 ft. high. It develops 2" long, lobed blue-green leaves. Blue Oak is very drought tolerant, is native to California and attracts butterflies. Because of its slow growth, it can be used for bonsai. Flowers are insignificant. Acorns were used by California Natives for food.

Pomegranate

Common name:Pomegranate
Botanical name:Punica granatum

A dense growing shrub, the Pomegranate produces showy, orange-red flowers that are followed by 2" diameter decorative fruit. Its apple-green leaves are about 1" long and .5" wide. (The fruit is not edible.)

Dealing With Drought

More than half of the water used at your home is for outside purposes. Studies show that on average, half of the water used outdoors is wasted. The leading cause of waste is incorrectly set and poorly managed irrigation controllers. The second biggest cause of wastage is broken irrigation equipment that goes undetected. There are a few basic things you can do to make a big difference in your water use.
